It is a great suspension aid. At low viscosities, it can provide rigid particle suspension - suspension in addition to good flow ability by preventing sediment and leakage.

Decreases Curing
Curing can become problematic as finishing a large self-leveling surface will cause any coating surface defects. Thus, no coating can be used for curing. The water retention capability allows the laid surface to gather strength through proper water intake while delaying the onset of shrinkage, thus reducing the likelihood of splitting and cracking.

Increases Ultimate Power
Because of the large surface area to volume ratio, incomplete water uptake due to evaporation becomes a primary cause of premature strength deterioration of self-recovering compounds. High water retention capabilities can prevent such errors by enabling the cement to fully absorb water, thus allowing higher strength development.
